The Cellar Door
Since 1998, a comfortable haven for seekers of fine, estate-grown Hunter Valley wines.
In 2007 we added a spacious, semi-enclosed deck looking out over the dam which provides a home to a wide variety of waterfowl and other birds.
Feel free to enjoy a picnic on the grass beside the duck pond, or on the deck, complete with a bottle of great Gartelmann Wine (sorry, no BYO alcohol).
Inside, there is usually an interesting array of local art and in winter a genuine log fire makes for a cosy haven that can be difficult to leave.
For those interested in the architectural aspects, the Cellar Door was built in 1997 and awarded a 1999 Lower Hunter Civic Design Award for Excellence in the design of smaller scale non-residential development.
The primary objective was to blend into the local environment, whilst at the same time being distinctive, memorable and easily identifiable as a retail outlet.
These needs were satisfied by the use of gray Colourbond corrugated sheeting to harmonize with the surrounding gum trees, on a stylish building with sharply pitched roof and natural timber windows and doors.
The curved lintel above the double entry doors, natural brick paths and small outbuildings for storage and toilet facilities contribute to the "country" feel.
The interior of the building is light and airy.
The cathedral ceiling is lined with straw batts and features large exposed beams and black iron fixing plates.
All in all, a relaxed atmosphere and an ideal ambience for the ‘business’ of tasting quality wines.
The cellar door is open to the public 7 days per week.
