It’s the time honoured ‘Sea Change’ scenario!
In 2002 whilst living and working in Adelaide, Diana and Bruce Keir were lucky enough to get the chance to buy 120 acres of beautiful land and an old homestead close to the Chapman River and just behind the dunes on Antechamber Bay.
They already had 4 acres of vines just up the hill with the vines doing well on the limestone influenced soil with a cool maritime climate, producing too much to drink personally and not enough for a big marketing campaign, so, a Cellar Door it had to be!
An aircraft hanger (a tin shed basically!) built by the Lashmar family and situated behind a stand of trees, next to the airstrip (North/South 800 metres, Flyers welcome) was just right for conversion to the Cellar Door.
Opened in September 2008.
The Cellar Door offers the small and interesting range of Chapman River ‘Happiness’ wines, available by the glass, bottle and box.
With daily specials of savoury platters, cakes and espresso coffees, the team at the Cellar Door will make you most welcome! Diana, trained as a potter but now paints the immediate and amazingly beautiful landscape with some success has incorporated her studio into this well appointed and stylish tin shed!
Check the art, have a great mouthful of Kangaroo Island wine, wander in the natural beauty of the Chapman River and on the breathtaking and pristine Antechamber Bay beach!
